This massive crash happened during the Seat Leon Eurocup race at Brands Hatch were driver Beirao Carvalho has lost control of his car which flipped many times and jumped over the protective fence towards a group of people. The Seat Leon Eurocup racer landed only inches away from a group of marshalls, who escaped luckily. Those marshalls really have a Guardian Angel!
On lap six, Carvalho and Paulsen made contact whilst jostling for position at Sheene Curve, which fired Carvalho into the barrier. The impact caused his SEAT to become airborne and roll several times, at which point it cleared the barrier and came to rest on the banking behind.
The vehicle did not make contact with marshals or spectators at any point and no one was injured by the incident. The driver also emerged from the vehicle unhurt.
Following the accident, the decision was made not to restart the race and Oriola was awarded victory ahead of Michael Rossi and Eoin Murray. Carvalho is currently classified as fourth in the provisional race result.
This video gives me cold shivers, because almost every weekend me and my collegue-photographers are standing track-side in even more dangerous locations then here in this video.
On top of that, most of the time we are looking through the viewfinder and our ’span of vision’ is very limited.
